William Henry Hare Hedges-White, 3rd Earl of Bantry (born November 10, 1801 – died January 15, 1884) was an important figure in Irish and British history. Serving as High Sheriff
In 1848, he became the High Sheriff of County Cork. A High Sheriff was a very old and important position. They were responsible for keeping law and order in their county. This included making sure courts ran smoothly and that elections were fair.
Becoming the Earl of Bantry
William became the Earl of Bantry in 1868. This happened after his older brother passed away. An Earl is a noble title, and it meant he was a leader in his family and community.
