Standing Up to Invasion

In 1797, a French army tried to invade Ireland. They landed at Bantry Bay to help Irish rebels. Richard White bravely led forces that were loyal to Great Britain against these French invaders.

Because of his loyalty and actions, he received special honors. On March 24, 1797, he was given the title Baron Bantry. This was a title in the Peerage of Ireland, which means he became a nobleman. He also received a gold medal from the City of Cork as a thank you.

Rising Through the Ranks

Richard White continued to be honored for his service. On December 29, 1800, he was made Viscount Bantry.

Later, on January 22, 1816, he received an even higher honor. He was made Earl of Bantry and Viscount Beerhaven. Both of these were also titles in the Peerage of Ireland.
