William Joseph Humphrey, born on October 17, 1967, is a former politician from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). He served as a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for North Belfast. His time as an MLA was from 2010 until 2022.
Before that, he was a Belfast City Councillor. He represented the Court area from 2005 to 2013.

Early Life and Political Beginnings
William Humphrey was born in the Woodvale area of Belfast, Northern Ireland. He attended the Boys' Model School. He was also a member of the Woodvale Residents' Association.
He later joined the Democratic Unionist Party. He became the chairman of the party in North Belfast. He also served as a member of the party's executive committee.
Serving Belfast City
In 2005, William Humphrey was elected to the Belfast City Council. He represented the Court district. The next year, in 2006, he became the High Sheriff of Belfast. This is a special ceremonial role in the city.
He tried to become an MLA for North Belfast in the 2007 election but was not elected. In 2010, he ran for a seat in the UK Parliament for West Belfast. He did not win this election either. However, in June 2010, he became the Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast.
Becoming an MLA
In September 2010, William Humphrey was chosen to become a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly. He took over the seat for North Belfast from Nigel Dodds. He was then officially elected in the 2011 Assembly election.
He spoke about following in Nigel Dodds' footsteps. He said he would work hard for the people in his area. He wanted to make a difference in their lives.
Recognition and Retirement
In 2021, William Humphrey received a special award. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This award was for his public service. It especially recognized his work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, William Humphrey announced he would not run for election again. He retired from his role as an MLA.
