William III, Count of Burgundy (born around 1110, died 1127) was an important figure in medieval Europe. He became the ruler of two areas, the County of Burgundy and the County of Mâcon, after his father, William II, passed away. William III was his father's only son.

His father, William II, died in 1125 during a conflict with some powerful nobles. This meant that young William III had to take on the role of Count at a very young age.

Becoming a Count

William III was born around the year 1110. When his father, William II, died in 1125, William III became the new Count of Burgundy and Mâcon. These were important territories in what is now France. Becoming a Count meant he was the main leader and protector of these lands and the people living there.

His Short Reign

William III's time as Count was very short. He was only about 15 years old when he took over. Sadly, he himself died in 1127, when he was just 17 years old. After his death, his cousin, Renaud III, became the next Count. Renaud III was the son of William III's great-uncle, Stephen.
