The William Luelleman House (also known as the Gerhard Hehemann House) is a very old and special house in downtown New Bremen, Ohio, United States. It was built way back in 1837, making it the oldest building in the village! This house is a great example of German architecture from the early days of the American frontier.

Some cool things about the house include how its windows and doors are perfectly balanced on the front. It also has special glass windows above the doors, called transom windows. Instead of a big porch, it has a small step or platform at the entrance, which is called a stoop.

A House with Many Lives

Even though the house is known by William Luelleman's name, many different people have owned and used it over the years. It was first built for a community leader named Gerhard Hehemann.

Later on, this historic house was home to the village's post office. It was also used as a shop and even a Dutch Reformed church! While it served as a business or a church, parts of the house were still used as a home for different families.

A Special Place in History

In 1975, the Luelleman House was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history. The house was recognized because its old architecture was so well-preserved.

Since New Bremen has a strong German heritage, this house was seen as a very important example of German architecture in Ohio. Today, the house is a museum run by the New Bremen Historic Association. This group has owned the house since shortly after they started in 1973.
