William Augustao Mgimwa was an important Tanzanian politician. He was born on January 20, 1950, and passed away on January 1, 2014. Mr. Mgimwa was a member of the CCM political party.
He served as a Member of Parliament for the Kalenga area from 2010 to 2014. During this time, he also held a very important job as Tanzania's Minister of Finance from 2012 to 2014. This meant he was in charge of the country's money and economy.
Early Life and Education
William Mgimwa went to school at Mafinga Seminary and Tosamaganga Seminary. These schools helped him get a good start in his education.
Later, he studied at the Institute of Finance Management. He also attended the Institute of Development Management, which is now known as Mzumbe University. There, he earned a special degree called an MBA in finance. This degree taught him a lot about managing money and financial systems.
Career in Public Service
Before becoming a politician, Mr. Mgimwa worked as an accountant at the National Bank of Commerce. An accountant helps manage money and keeps financial records.
From 2000 to 2010, he was the head of the Bank of Tanzania Training Institute in Mwanza. This role involved teaching others about banking and finance.
In 2010, William Mgimwa was chosen by a large number of people to be their Member of Parliament for the Kalenga area. He received a huge 31,421 votes! This showed how much people trusted him.
In May 2012, the President of Tanzania at the time, Jakaya Kikwete, chose him for an even bigger role. He became the Minister of Finance. In this job, he helped manage all the money for the country.
His Passing
William Mgimwa passed away on January 1, 2014. He was in Pretoria, South Africa, getting medical treatment at the Kloof Medi-Clinic.
His body was brought back to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on January 4. The next day, people could pay their respects at Karimjee Hall. He was buried on January 6 in his home village of Magunga, which is in the Iringa Region.
