Who Was William Sadler II?

William Sadler II was born around 1782. His father was William Sadler, an English portrait painter. His father had moved to Ireland when he was a boy.

Sadler II lived in different places before settling in Manders' Building, Ranelagh. He passed away there on December 19, 1839. He and his wife, Caroline, had several children. Sadler's Artistic Journey

Sadler grew up in Dublin, Ireland. He showed his paintings in the city between 1809 and 1821. Later, in 1828 and 1833, he also exhibited his art at the Royal Hibernian Academy.

Sadler also taught painting to others. One of his students was James Arthur O'Connor, who became a notable artist. Sadler was greatly influenced by Dutch genre painting. This style often shows scenes from everyday life. He also made many copies of paintings by older, famous artists, known as the Old Masters.

Sadler mostly used oil paints for his artworks. Many of his paintings showed scenes of Dublin's city life. He often painted crowds of people or military scenes. He usually painted on mahogany wood panels.

Sadler Family Painters

William Sadler II, his father, and his son William all painted in a similar way. This has sometimes made it hard to tell which Sadler painted certain artworks. However, William Sadler II is generally thought to be the most skilled artist of the three.
