William Starr Basinger (1827–1910) was an important person in Georgia history. He was a lawyer, a military officer, and a state lawmaker. He also served as the president of a college that is now known as the University of North Georgia.

Military Service

During the American Civil War, William Starr Basinger served in the military. He was a Major in the Confederate States Army. His unit was the 18th Georgia Battalion.

The Civil War was a major conflict in American history. Basinger took part in important battles. One of these was the Second Battle of Fort Wagner. This battle happened in 1863 near Charleston, South Carolina.
