William Wright facts for kids
Sir William Thompson Wright, born in 1925, is a businessman from Northern Ireland. He also used to be a politician who believed in keeping Northern Ireland part of the United Kingdom. He grew up in a town called Ballymena.

Getting Involved in Politics
In the 1970s, Sir William joined a political group called the Vanguard Unionist Progressive Party. He became the leader, or Chairman, of this party.
In 1975, he was chosen to represent the party in North Antrim during an important election. This election was for the Northern Ireland Constitutional Convention, which was a meeting to discuss how Northern Ireland should be governed. Sir William was successfully elected.
Later, he followed other leaders from his party and joined the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP). After joining the UUP, he was elected to the local government, known as the Ballymena Borough Council.
Special Awards and Recognition
Sir William has received several important awards for his work.
In 2011, he was given the CBE award. This stands for Commander of the Order of the British Empire and is a special honour from the Queen or King.
In 2018, he received an even higher honour. He was made a knight by the Queen. This means he can use the title "Sir" before his name.
