A Look Back: Williams' History
How Williams Got Its Name
Williams has an interesting story behind its name! In the 1870s, this community was first called Greenville. It was named after some brothers who owned and operated a sawmill there.
However, there was a problem: another place in Indiana already had a post office named Greenville, Indiana. To avoid confusion, the community needed a new name. That's when Garrett Williams suggested the name "Williams," which is what it's known as today.
