About the Church Building
The Williamwood Parish Church building was finished in 1937. It was designed by architects Wilson & Son and Honeyman. The church is a great example of church design from the mid-1930s.
It is built with red bricks and has a small belltower. Inside, the church used to look very simple. However, it has been updated and made more beautiful over time.
The Digital Organ
Williamwood Parish Church has a special musical instrument. It is home to an early Allen Digital Organ. This organ was installed in 1971. It was one of the first digital organs ever put in by the Allen Organ Company.
Church Leaders and Ministers
Since it opened, Williamwood Parish Church has had only six main ministers. A minister is like a pastor or spiritual leader for the church.
Current Minister
The minister leading the church today is Rev Jan Mathieson. She became the minister here after moving from another church. That church was Cawdor & Croy Parish.
Past Ministers
One of the previous ministers was Rev Iain Reid. He served the church from 2007 to 2014. Before coming to Williamwood, he was a chaplain at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. A chaplain provides spiritual care in places like hospitals.
Other ministers who have served Williamwood Parish Church include:
- Daniel Patterson (1937 - 1941): He sadly passed away while he was still the minister here.
- John Stanley Pritchard (1942 - 1949): He later retired from working in religious broadcasting for the BBC.
- Colin Campbell (1949 - 1989): He served the church for a very long time.
- Rev G Hutton B Steel (1990 - 2006): He is now a minister in Aberdeen.
