Willie Ricardo Burton (born May 26, 1968) is a former American professional basketball player. He was chosen by the Miami Heat as the ninth overall pick in the 1990 NBA draft. Burton played for many NBA teams between 1990 and 1999. He also played basketball in Europe for several years. Willie was born in Detroit, Michigan. He went to high school at Saint Martin De Porres.

High School Basketball Career
Burton went to high school at Saint Martin De Porres. His school team won the Michigan Class C state championship in both 1985 and 1986. In 1990, Burton was honored by being added to the Detroit Catholic High School Hall of Fame.
College Basketball Career
Willie Burton played college basketball for the University of Minnesota. During his junior year in 1989, his team reached the "Sweet Sixteen" in the NCAA tournament. In his senior year (1990), they made it to the "Elite Eight."
Burton ended his college career as the Golden Gophers' second highest scorer ever, with 1,800 points. He was named first-team All-Big Ten in 1990. He also received second-team All-Big Ten honors in 1989. In 2013, Burton was inducted into the University of Minnesota Hall of Fame. His jersey number, 34, was officially retired by the Golden Gophers on January 26, 2020.
Professional Basketball Career
The Miami Heat picked Willie Burton as the ninth overall player in the 1990 NBA draft. This was after his successful time playing for the University of Minnesota. In his first year in the NBA, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. He averaged 12 points per game that season.
One of Burton's most memorable games was on December 13, 1994. While playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, he scored 53 points against his old team, the Miami Heat. What made this even more impressive is that he only took 19 shots in the game. This is one of the fewest shots ever taken to score 50 points in an NBA game.
