Willie Hunter is a former American football player and coach. He was the head football coach at Clark Atlanta University from 1990 to 1996.
Willie Hunter's Football Journey
Willie Hunter played college football at Fort Valley State College. He also played professionally for the Atlanta Spartans in 1964. The Spartans were part of the Atlantic Coast Football League.
After his playing days, Hunter became a teacher and football coach. He worked in the Atlanta Public Schools system for 33 years. In 1989, he left his high school coaching job. He then joined Clark Atlanta University as their defensive coordinator.
Becoming a Head Coach
In January 1990, Willie Hunter took over as the head coach for the Clark Atlanta Panthers. He replaced William M. Spencer. Hunter led the team for seven seasons, from 1990 to 1996.
Coaching Achievements
During his time as head coach at Clark Atlanta, Hunter's team had an overall record of 29 wins, 41 losses, and 1 tie. A big highlight was in 1991. That year, his team won the SIAC championship! This was a great achievement for the Panthers.
Before coaching at the college level, Hunter had a very successful career coaching high school football. His high school teams had an impressive record of 101 wins and only 25 losses.
