Wilson Washington Jr. was born on August 3, 1955. He is an American former basketball player. He also worked as an assistant coach at Norfolk State University. Washington was a top player, known as an All-American, at Old Dominion University. He played for two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

College Basketball Journey
Wilson Washington started his college basketball career at Maryland. He played for coach Lefty Driesell. After just one game, he decided to transfer.
Success at Old Dominion
Washington moved to Old Dominion University. This team was in Division II at the time. He quickly became a star player there.
As a sophomore in the 1974–75 season, Washington scored about 13.7 points per game. He also grabbed 12.6 rebounds per game. He was named a third-team All-American. The Old Dominion Monarchs had a great season, winning 25 games and losing only 6. They won the 1975 NCAA Division II national championship. Washington was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In his junior year, Washington continued to excel. He averaged 17.9 points and 13.5 rebounds. The Monarchs played many Division I teams that season. This helped them get ready to move up to Division I the next year. Old Dominion reached the Division II Final Four again. Washington was named a first-team All-American.
For his senior year, Old Dominion moved to Division I. Washington led the team to a strong 25–4 record. He averaged 18 points and 11.4 rebounds. He became Old Dominion's first Division I All-American.
Overall, in his three years at Old Dominion, Washington scored 1,366 points. He also collected 1,011 rebounds. He blocked 363 shots, showing his strong defense.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, Wilson Washington was chosen in the 1977 NBA draft. The Philadelphia 76ers picked him in the second round. He was the 25th pick overall.
Playing in the NBA
Washington played a small role for the 76ers at first. He averaged 1.4 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. After 14 games, he was traded to the New Jersey Nets. With the Nets, he got more playing time. He returned to the Nets for the 1978–79 season. That year, he averaged 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
After his time in the NBA, Washington played basketball overseas. He played in Italy and the Netherlands.
Coaching Basketball
After working in business for several years, Washington returned to basketball. He joined the coaching staff at Norfolk State. He became an assistant coach for the 2011–12 season.
In his first season as a coach, the Norfolk State Spartans had a great year. They won 26 games and lost 10. They also won their first-ever NCAA tournament game. They achieved an upset victory against the Missouri team.
