Winchester is a small community in Washakie County, Wyoming, United States. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it does not have its own local government like a city or town.
In the year 2000, only 60 people lived in Winchester. It was counted as a special area for the census. The community got its name from R. S. Winchester, who was a local rancher and the first postmaster. He started the post office there. Interestingly, Mr. Winchester did not want his name used for the local train station. So, the railroad decided to call the station Chatham instead.
