The Windsor Methodist Parsonage is an important old building. It is located at 49 Macquarie Street in Windsor, Australia. A parsonage is a house where a church minister or pastor lives. This building is also known as Chantons Chambers. It is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register. This means it is a special place protected for its history. It was added to this list on April 2, 1999.

A Look Back: The Parsonage's Story

The original parsonage building was sadly destroyed in a big fire. This fire happened on December 23, 1874. It also burned down the first Methodist church.

The building you see today was built in the 1870s. It was built around the same time as the second Methodist church. This church is now called the Uniting Church. The parsonage was used as a minister's home until 1982.

What Does the Parsonage Look Like?

The former parsonage is a two-storey house. It is made of brick and has a smooth, rendered finish. The house looks the same on both sides, which is called symmetrical.

It has a steep roof made of iron. There is a tall chimney at each end of the roof. The house has large windows. These windows are in pairs on each side of the front door. The front door has four panels. Above the door is a window called a transom. There are also windows on the sides of the door. All these windows are set inside an arch.

The house has a two-storey verandah. A verandah is a covered porch. This one has a cast iron balustrade, which is a fancy railing. It also has columns with decorative patterns. These columns are paired on each side of the front door. Upstairs, there are French windows. Outside, there is a typical timber picket fence.

Why Is It Important?

The Windsor Methodist Parsonage is considered very important historically. Because of its history and design, it was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register. This happened on April 2, 1999. This listing helps protect the building for future generations.
