Winston Kinnard Garland, born on December 19, 1964, is a former American professional basketball player. He played as a point guard, which is like the team's main ball-handler and play-maker.
He played college basketball for two years at Southeastern Community College (Iowa). After that, he played for two more seasons at Missouri State University. In 1987, the Milwaukee Bucks picked him in the second round of the 1987 NBA draft.
Winston Garland played professional basketball for eight seasons. Seven of those seasons were in the NBA, where he played for five different teams.

In his first year in the NBA, Garland was the first player on the Warriors team in five years to get a triple-double. A triple-double means a player gets double-digit numbers (10 or more) in three different stats in one game, like points, rebounds, and assists.
Playing Basketball in Italy
Winston Garland also played one year of professional basketball in Italy. He played for a team called Benetton Treviso during the 1993–94 season. While playing in Italy, his team won the Italian Cup.
High School and College Years
Winston Garland went to Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana. This school also had other NBA players like Dick Barnett and Glenn Robinson. In his junior year of high school, in 1982, his team almost won the Indiana State Championship. They lost in the final seconds to Plymouth High School, which had future NBA player Scott Skiles on their team.
In 2007, Winston Garland was honored by being added to the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Anniversary Team.
Life After Playing Basketball
After his playing career, Winston Garland became a basketball coach. From 2009 to 2012, he was the head coach for the boys' basketball team at Gary West Side High School in Gary, Indiana.
Winston Garland is also the father of Cleveland Cavaliers player Darius Garland.
