Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Wipeout is an American reality game show that airs on ABC. In this exciting show, contestants try to get through a series of obstacle courses. People often call these courses the "world's largest obstacle course." The show first started on June 24, 2008. It is hosted by John Henson and John Anderson. Vanessa Lachey helps out as an on-location host.

About the Game Show

Wipeout is famous for its huge, challenging obstacle courses. These courses are designed to be fun and difficult. Contestants often fall into water or mud while trying to finish. The show is known for its funny moments and the contestants' brave attempts.

How the Game Works

The game has four different rounds. Each round gets harder, and fewer players move on.

Round 1: The Qualifier

In the first round, 24 players start the game. They all try to complete a big obstacle course called the "qualifier." This course tests their speed and balance. The 12 players who finish the course the fastest move on to the next round.

Round 2: The Gauntlet

Next, the 12 remaining players face another tough obstacle course. This course is often more challenging than the first. The goal is to be one of the first 6 players to finish. These 6 players then get to move on to the third round.

Round 3: The Sweeper

The third round features a new obstacle course. Only 6 players are left at this point. They must compete to be among the top 3 finishers. These three players are the last ones standing. They get to go to the final and most important round.

Round 4: The Wipeout Zone

The fourth and final round is called the "Wipeout Zone." This is the ultimate challenge. The last 3 players compete in one more super difficult obstacle course. They all try to finish it in the fastest time possible. The player who completes the Wipeout Zone the quickest wins the grand prize of $50,000!
