Wishart is a small, quiet place in Polk County, Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

Wishart is located on a county road, about 2.5 miles northwest of a town called Morrisville. A stream named Slagle Creek flows just south of the community. This creek eventually joins the Little Sac River a couple of miles to the west.

History of Wishart

How Wishart Got Its Name

The community of Wishart was named after a person named D.R. Wishart. He was an important official who worked for the railroad. It was common for new communities to be named after people who helped develop the area, especially those involved with railroads, as trains were a major way to travel and transport goods back then.

The Wishart Post Office

A post office was opened in Wishart in 1884. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. Having a post office was a big deal for a community because it meant people could easily communicate with others far away. It also showed that the community was growing and had enough people to need its own mail service. The Wishart post office served the community for many years before it finally closed in 1957.
