What is Withdean Stadium?
Withdean Stadium is mainly known as an athletics stadium. This means it has a track for running races and areas for other sports like long jump or shot put. It is located in the city of Brighton, which is on the south coast of England.
Why was it important for Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.?
From 1999 to 2011, Withdean Stadium became the temporary home for Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. Their old stadium, Goldstone Ground, was sold, and they needed a place to play. Even though Withdean was an athletics stadium and not perfect for football, it served its purpose for over ten years. Fans would come to watch their team play here every week.
Moving to a new home
In 2011, Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. finally moved to their brand new stadium, The American Express Community Stadium, often called "The Amex." This new stadium is much larger and was built especially for football. It has better facilities for both players and fans. Withdean Stadium then went back to being mainly an athletics venue.
