Wolf Lake is a small community in Noble County, Indiana. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of Noble Township.
A Look Back: Wolf Lake's History
Wolf Lake got its start in 1836. It was named after a lake nearby, which is also called Wolf Lake. People have been able to send and receive mail here since 1834, when a post office first opened.
A very old building in the community, the former Luckey Hospital, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. This means it's an important historical site!
Education and Sports
Wolf Lake High School made a big splash in Indiana basketball history. In 1942, their team, the Wolf Lake Wolves, won the regional championship!
Even though the school was small, with only 123 students, they beat a much bigger team, Fort Wayne Central High School. The Wolves then moved on to the semi-state round of the state basketball tournament. They were the smallest school from their part of Indiana to make it that far.
The team's success was thanks to a strong group of senior players: Art Keister, Paul Keister, Roger Stangland, and Delbert Hartman. These players started high school in 1939–40. During their three years, they helped the Wolves win three Noble County championships. They also had an amazing record of 50 straight regular season wins and a total of 70 wins with only 5 losses!
Fun Festivals
Every August, the people of Wolf Lake celebrate their community's history and culture with the Onion Days Festival. It's a fun way for everyone to come together!
