Playing for Clubs
Early Career in Austria
Wolfgang Feiersinger began his professional football journey in 1986. He joined a team called Austria Salzburg. He played with them for ten years. During this time, the club had a very successful period. They won two league titles, which are like championships.
In 1994, Feiersinger and Austria Salzburg reached the UEFA Cup final. This was a big European competition. They played against a famous Italian team, Inter Milan.
Moving to Germany
In the 1996–97 season, Wolfgang Feiersinger moved to Germany. He joined a well-known German team called Borussia Dortmund. He quickly achieved a huge success with them. Dortmund won the Champions League that very season. This is one of the most important club football tournaments in the world.
Feiersinger played in both semi-final matches against Manchester United. However, he did not play in the final game. Another player, Matthias Sammer, returned from an injury and took his spot. National Team Debut
Wolfgang Feiersinger first played for the Austrian national team in August 1990. This was a friendly match against Switzerland. He went on to play for his country 46 times. He did not score any goals for the national team.
World Cup Experience
His last international match was in April 1999. It was a qualification game for the European Championship against San Marino. Feiersinger was also part of the Austrian team that played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He played in all three of Austria's matches at that tournament. He also played in 15 World Cup qualification games during his career.
