Wonderland, California facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Wonderland was once a special place in Plumas County, California. It wasn't a big city, but more like a small community or a place where people went for holidays. Think of it as a former vacation spot!

What Was Wonderland?

Wonderland used to be a settlement, which means it was a place where people lived and worked. It was also known as a vacation resort. This means it was a popular destination where people went to relax and have fun, perhaps enjoying nature or other activities.

Where Was Wonderland Located?

This former resort was found about 12 miles (which is about 19 kilometers) northwest of a town called Chester. Both Chester and Wonderland are located in Plumas County, which is in the beautiful state of California.

The Post Office Story

Even though Wonderland was a smaller place, it had its own post office! The Wonderland post office was open for many years, from 1924 until 1946. A post office is important because it helps people send and receive letters and packages, connecting them to the rest of the world. When the post office closed, it often meant that fewer people were living or visiting Wonderland.
