Woodburn is a small, unnamed place in Loudoun County, Virginia. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
Where is Woodburn?
Woodburn is located on Hogback Mountain. This mountain is southwest of a larger town called Leesburg. Today, the main way to find where Woodburn used to be is by looking for Woodburn Road. This road connects Dry Mill Road and Harmony Church Roads.
What Happened to the General Store?
For a long time, the old ruins of Woodburn's general store stood near where Woodburn Road meets Forrestgrove Road. A general store is like a small shop that sells many different things. It was an important part of the community.
However, around the year 2000, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) decided to make changes. VDOT is the state agency that builds and takes care of roads. Even though the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors wanted to keep the road unpaved, VDOT decided to pave and widen it. During this process, the old general store was taken down.
