Woodbury is a small, unincorporated community located in Hancock County, Indiana. It's part of Vernon Township. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, but it still has people living there.
The Story of Woodbury
Woodbury was first planned and mapped out in 1851. A woman named Ellen Wood was responsible for laying out the community.
A Look at Woodbury's Past
Years later, in 1858, Woodbury got its very own post office. This was a big deal because it made it easier for people to send and receive letters. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1903.
