History of Woodfin
The history of Woodfin is closely connected to factories and making things. Many of the older homes in Woodfin were built for people who worked in these factories. These areas are sometimes called "mill villages." Some neighborhoods still have names like "Martel Village" or "Company Bottom." These names show their connection to the old industries.
In the 1970s and 1980s, many factories in America closed down. This caused problems for Woodfin's economy. Many people lost their jobs, and the town's population decreased.
However, things started to change in the 1990s. More people began moving to western North Carolina, including Woodfin. Today, Woodfin's economy is a mix of different businesses. It has both large and small factories, along with homes and shops. Woodfin is the 115th largest town in North Carolina.
The North Carolina Electrical Power Company Electric Generating Plant is an important historical building in Woodfin. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. This list helps protect important historical sites.
