Woodmont Beach, Washington facts for kids
Woodmont Beach, a private beach, is located in Des Moines, Washington at 47 21'36.94"N 122 19'26.75"W elev 10' (at the plaza). It is located in South King County along the shore of Puget Sound.
The area was originally logged and later developed as a community of summer homes with a shared beach. In the 1920s, a large dock provided fun for the residents escaping Seattle and easy access for the rum-runners that brought in liquor from Canada. One can still see the pylons from this dock. Today the area is developed with a mix of old and new homes making use of the beautiful views the hillside offers. The club provides a tennis facility and playground as well as a mile of beach. It also has a small trail system called the "bootlegger trail". All of the residents who reside in upper Woodmont and lower Woodmont are encouraged to join the community club. It was named the Woodmont Country Club when it was first founded in 1918, however today, it the neighbors volunteering to keep the dues low and the community intact. One must be a member of the club to use the beach, trails or any of the facilities.
