A Look at Woodstock's History
How Woodstock Began
Woodstock was one of the very first places people settled on Alameda Island. It started way back in 1853. Imagine, it was one of just three small communities that grew up there!
Becoming Part of Alameda
Later, in 1872, something big happened. The three small towns on the island – Alameda, Encinal, and Woodstock – decided to join together. They officially became one big town called Alameda. At that time, about 2,000 people lived there. This joining together is called "incorporation," which means they formed an official town government.
