Woodville, Tennessee facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Woodville is a small place, also called an unincorporated community, located in Chester County, Tennessee. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government like a city or town.

The Story of Woodville

Woodville is found along Tennessee State Route 225. It wasn't always part of Chester County. A long time ago, it was actually in McNairy County. But when Chester County was officially created, Woodville became part of this new county.

During the American Civil War (1861-1865), people in Woodville, like many others in Tennessee, had different ideas about which side to support. Some people supported the Union, which was the northern states. Others supported the Confederacy, which was the southern states.

A local leader named Fielding Hurst was important during this time. He gathered people from this area to form a Union Cavalry Regiment. This group fought for the Union side. Because of his influence, some historians have even called this area "The Hurst Nation."
