The World Chicken Festival is a super fun yearly event. It happens in downtown London, Kentucky. This town is in Laurel County. The festival always takes place on the last weekend of September. It celebrates the life of Colonel Sanders. He was the person who started Kentucky Fried Chicken. The very first KFC restaurant opened in the 1940s. It was in Corbin, Kentucky, which is also in Laurel County.

The Chicken Festival started in 1990. It was created to honor Colonel Harland Sanders. He was a very famous person. The festival has many exciting events. Most of them are about chicken and KFC.
Some popular events include an egg drop contest. There is also a Colonel Sanders look-alike contest. You can even join a "Run for the Roost" 5K race. In 2020, the festival did not happen. This was because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But it came back in 2021!
The World's Biggest Frying Pan
One amazing thing at the festival is the world's largest stainless steel skillet. This giant pan is 10 feet and 6 inches wide (about 3.2 meters). It is very heavy! This huge skillet can cook 600 chicken pieces at one time. Imagine how much chicken that is!
