Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The World Money Fair is a big international event where people who love coins come together. Think of it like a special market or a big show just for coins! At this event, coin dealers, collectors, and even the public can buy, sell, and trade coins from all over the world. It's a fantastic place to see rare coins and learn about money.

How the World Money Fair Started

Back in 1970, a person named A. M. Beck had a great idea. He wanted to make it easier for people to collect coins and for the coin market to grow stronger. So, he started an organization in Munich, Germany. It was called the "Organisation of European Coins-Bourses," or "Organisation Europäischer Münzen-Börsen" in German.

Growing into a Global Event

Just two years later, in 1972, this new organization held its very first international coin event in Basel, Switzerland. Over time, this event grew bigger and bigger. It eventually became what we know today as the "World Money Fair." Now, more than 40 different countries are part of this amazing organization!

A Special Event in Berlin

In 2006, the World Money Fair was held in Berlin for the very first time. It was a big moment! The German Secretary of State, Karl Diller, was there to present something new and exciting. He showed off the brand-new German 2 Euro coin. This special coin features the famous Holstentor, which is a beautiful old city gate in Lübeck, Germany.
