Do you love a warm bowl of porridge? Well, there's a special competition just for that! The World Porridge Making Championship has been happening every year since 1994. It's a fun event where people compete to make the best porridge.
The main prize is a shiny "Golden Spurtle" trophy. A spurtle is a special wooden stick used for stirring porridge. The winner also gets the title of "World Porridge Making Champion." To win this, they must make traditional porridge using only oatmeal, water, and salt.
There's also another prize for the best "Speciality" porridge. For this, contestants still use oatmeal, but they can add their own creative ingredients. Imagine all the different flavors!
This exciting competition takes place in a small village called Carrbridge. It's located in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. Volunteers from the Carrbridge Community Council organize the event. Since 2009, the championship has been held at the same time as World Porridge Day. In 2023, people from twenty different countries came to compete. Adam Kiani from Pakistan won the main prize that year!
