Wright, also known as Wrights Cross Roads, is a small place in Lauderdale County, Alabama. It's an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's part of the larger county.

The Story of Wright

How Wright Got Its Name

Wright is named after a man called Moses Wright. He was a "post rider," which was like an early mail carrier. Moses Wright rode along the Natchez Trace, an old historic path. He decided to settle in this area.

Early Businesses in Wright

Moses Wright opened a general store in the community. This store sold many different things people needed. By the year 1900, Wright was a busy little place. It had three stores, a mill, and a cotton gin. A cotton gin is a machine that separates cotton fibers from their seeds.

Wright's Role in Railroads

Wright was also important for making "cross ties." These are the wooden beams that support railroad tracks. They are also called railroad ties. The community played a big part in producing these for the growing railway system.

The Post Office in Wright

Wright even had its own post office for a while. It was open from 1891 until 1914. This helped people send and receive mail in the area.
