Coxs Corner is a small place in New Jersey. It's also called Cox's Corner or sometimes Wrightsville. This area is part of Upper Freehold Township in Monmouth County.
The community is named after James Cox. He was a famous person who lived there a long time ago. He was a congressman and a general. His family home, "Box Grove," was in this area. Coxs Corner is located where two important roads meet: County Route 524 and County Route 43. You can also find the Upper Freehold Historic Farmland Byway passing through this historic spot.

History of Coxs Corner
Early Days and Family Homes
The Cox family has lived in the Upper Freehold area since the 1600s. That's a very long time ago! By 1731, many farms, called farmsteads, were built at important crossroads. One of these places later became known as Wrightsville, just east of where Coxs Corner is today.
The road junction at Coxs Corner has been there since colonial times. A special house called Merino Hill was built for Samuel G. Wright. He was born in Wrightsville in 1781. Like James Cox, Samuel Wright was also elected to Congress. Sadly, he passed away before he could take office.
Merino Hill and Historic Status
Merino Hill is a very important historical building. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized for its special history. The Department of Environmental Protection and the Monmouth County Historical Association believe Merino Hill and six other nearby houses at Coxs Corner are important enough to be part of a historic village.
In 1920, a monument was put up to honor the Cox family. It celebrates five generations of the family. The monument mentions that "Thomas and Elizabeth Blashford Cox were among the first settlers of the Province of East Jersey." This shows how long their family has been connected to the area.
The Name "Wrightsville"
Coxs Corner first appeared on a New Jersey map in 1917. In 1987, the person who owned Merino Hill at the time wrote about the name "Wrightsville." They said it used to be the name of a settlement a short distance east of the corner.
However, the name "Wrightsville" stopped being used for a while. The old settlement doesn't exist anymore. But later, the name was brought back on modern maps. Sometimes, it was mistakenly used to refer to Coxs Corner itself.
