Xavier is a small town and municipality in northern Spain. It is located in the region of Navarre. The town is known by a few names: Xabier in Basque and Javier in Castilian. Only about 112 people live there.
The name "Xavier" comes from the Navarro-Aragonese language. It is a changed form of the original word Etxeberri. This word means "new house" in the Basque language.
Xavier is famous for its old Castle of Xavier. This castle was partly destroyed in 1516. However, it was later rebuilt and restored. A church called a Basilica is also attached to the castle. The town of Xavier is also the original place for the popular given name Xabier / Xavier.
