Xavier James Silas (born January 22, 1988) is an American basketball coach and former professional player. He is currently the head coach for the Mets de Guaynabo. This team plays in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), which is the top professional basketball league in Puerto Rico. Xavier Silas played college basketball for the University of Colorado at Boulder and Northern Illinois University.

Early Life and College Basketball
Xavier Silas grew up in Austin, Texas. He went to Stephen F. Austin High School there. Later, he moved to Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, to attend Brewster Academy for an extra year of high school. During the 2005–06 season, he scored about 12.8 points and grabbed 4.0 rebounds per game for Brewster Academy.
After playing two seasons for the University of Colorado, Silas moved to Northern Illinois University in 2008. He had to sit out the 2008–09 season because of college transfer rules. In his final year at Northern Illinois (2010–11), Silas was named to the All-Mid-American Conference first team. He led the MAC in scoring, averaging 22.3 points per game, and also had 4.6 rebounds per game.
Professional Playing Career
Xavier Silas was not chosen in the 2011 NBA draft. However, he still began his professional career.
Starting in Europe and the NBA G League
In September 2011, Silas signed a one-year contract with BCM Gravelines in France. He left France in December 2011 and returned to the United States.
He then signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in December 2011 but was later released. A week later, he joined the Maine Red Claws, a team in the NBA's minor league (now called the G League). In April 2012, he signed with the 76ers again for the rest of that season.
Injury and Return to the G League
In July 2012, Silas played for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA Summer League. During one game, he was accidentally hit in the head, which caused a concussion and several sinus fractures. He needed surgery for his injuries.
He re-signed with the 76ers in September 2012 but was released again in October. He then rejoined the Maine Red Claws in November 2012. He was inactive for the rest of the season starting in February 2013.
Playing in Different Countries
In July 2013, Silas played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Summer League. He signed with the Washington Wizards in September 2013 but was released in October. His rights in the G League were traded to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
In November 2013, he signed with Maccabi Ashdod in Israel. He played nine games there before leaving in January 2014. In February 2014, he joined Quimsa in Argentina.
In September 2014, Silas signed with the Washington Wizards again but was released in October. In January 2015, he signed with Nea Kifissia in Greece.
Later Career and the BIG3 League
In August 2015, Silas signed with Telekom Baskets Bonn in Germany. He left the team in November after playing a few games. Later that month, he signed with San Lorenzo de Almagro in Argentina. He played seven games there before leaving in December.
In January 2016, Silas was acquired by the Bakersfield Jam in the NBA Development League. This team later changed its name to the Northern Arizona Suns. He played for them until 2018.
In March 2018, the Boston Celtics signed Silas to a 10-day contract. He played two games for them before his contract ended. In October 2018, he signed with the Denver Nuggets for training camp but was released. He then joined the Iowa Wolves for the 2018–19 season.
In April 2017, Silas was chosen as the 4th overall pick in the first draft for the BIG3 basketball league. This is a 3-on-3 basketball league created by Ice Cube. Silas played for Tri State and was later traded to the Ball Hogs in July 2017.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Xavier Silas moved into coaching.
- For the 2019–20 season, he became an assistant coach for the Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA G League.
- Before the 2021–22 season, Silas became an assistant coach for the Motor City Cruise.
- As of the 2024-25 basketball season, Silas is the Associate Head Coach at Virginia Military Institute. He is also the head coach for the Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico.

Personal Life
Xavier Silas is the son of James and Vanessa Silas. He has six brothers and one sister. His father, James Silas, was also a very successful basketball player. He was a two-time All-American at Stephen F. Austin. James Silas played 328 games in the American Basketball Association (ABA), where he averaged 18.2 points per game. After the ABA–NBA merger, he played six seasons in the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs and one for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged 14.2 points per game in the NBA.
