Xiang Yun (born Chen Cuichang on 27 October 1961) is a famous Singaporean actress and television host. Many people call her MediaCorp's first "Ah Jie," which means a senior or respected actress. She was one of the first local actors trained in Singapore and has been acting for over 29 years!

Her Amazing Acting Journey
Xiang Yun started her acting career in 1980 after training with the SBC. She first appeared in children's dramas. Later, she acted in shows like Double Blessings and All That Glitters Is Not Gold in 1983.
Becoming a Star
Her big break came in 1984 with the popular drama series The Awakening. She played "Ah Mei," a character who was the love interest of "Ah Shui," played by Huang Wenyong. This role made her very famous! She and Huang Wenyong were even named among the "Top 5 Favourite On-Screen Partners" and "Top 5 Most Memorable Drama Characters" at the Star Awards 2007.
Xiang Yun also performed in theatre. Her first stage role was Li Qing in December Rains, a play written by famous songwriters Liang Wern Fook and Jimmy Ye.
Important Roles and Comebacks
In 1997, Xiang Yun played a real-life Singaporean war hero, Elizabeth Choy, in the drama The Price of Peace. After her second child was born, she took a short break from acting.
She returned to television in 2000 and has since starred in many big shows from MediaCorp. Some of these include Double Happiness, Portrait of Home, The Little Nyonya, and Kinship.
Staying Popular
Even with many new, younger actresses, Xiang Yun has remained very popular. She was voted one of the "Top 10 Most Popular Artistes" at the annual Star Awards every year from 2000 to 2010! Because of this, she received the special "All-Time Favourite Artiste Award." She has also won the "Best Supporting Actress" award five times, which is a record! She won in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2009, and 2023.
Her Family Life
Xiang Yun is married to Edmund Chen, who was also an actor. They met while working on the TV series Patrol. They got married very quickly, and their wedding was a big deal because celebrity marriages were not usually made public back then.
They have two children, a son named Chen Xi and a daughter named Yixin. Both of their children have followed in their parents' footsteps and are actors too!
On 12 September 2023, Xiang Yun shared that her mother passed away at the age of 84 due to kidney failure.
