Xu Daoning facts for kids

Xu Daoning (simplified Chinese: 许道宁; traditional Chinese: 許道寧; pinyin: Xǔ Dàoníng; Wade–Giles: Hsü Tao-ning) was a very talented Chinese painter. He was born around the year 970 and passed away sometime between 1051 and 1053. He lived a long time ago, during a period called the Northern Song Dynasty (from 960 to 1279). Xu Daoning came from a city called Chang'an (which is now Xi'an) or possibly Hejian (which is in Hebei province today).
Xu Daoning's Early Life
When he was younger, Xu Daoning started out by selling medicine in a city called Kaifeng. Even while he was selling medicine, he also loved to paint! He began drawing beautiful nature scenes, like mountains and rivers. He painted in a style similar to another famous artist named Li Cheng.
Becoming a Famous Artist
As Xu Daoning became more well-known for his art, important people (called nobles) noticed his talent. They asked him to paint large pictures on walls, known as murals, for their homes. This showed how popular and respected his artwork had become.
His Most Famous Painting
One of Xu Daoning's most famous paintings is called Fishermen's Evening Song. He created this beautiful artwork around the year 1049. It is a wonderful example of his skill in capturing the beauty of nature and everyday life.
