Yahualica is a town and a local government area (called a municipality) in the northeastern part of Jalisco, Mexico. It is one of the 125 municipalities that make up the state of Jalisco.

Yahualica covers about 563.3 square kilometers. It shares its borders with the state of Zacatecas. The name Yahualica likely comes from the Nahuas people. It might mean "the house of fog" or "the round place."

History of Yahualica

Early Inhabitants and Spanish Arrival

In 1165, the Tecuexe people lived in this region. They later fought against the Aztecs for control of the land.

In the 1530s, Spanish explorers arrived. Cristóbal de Oñate led the Spanish who took control of the region.

Becoming a Municipality

In 1824, Yahualica officially became a municipality. This means it got its own local government.
