In 2000, Yan Yan Chan's group, Acid, released Burma's very first hip hop album. Many people in the music business thought it wouldn't do well. But the album, called Beginning, was a huge hit! It stayed at the top of the Burmese music charts for over two months.

Their music often mixed a strong, energetic style with traditional Burmese poetry. People said that their songs sometimes hinted at the difficulties of life in Burma. This could be a bit risky, but their music connected with many listeners.

Working for Change

After a big protest in 2007 against the military rulers in Burma, Yan Yan Chan's bandmate, Phyo Zeya Thaw, helped start a youth group called Generation Wave. This group wanted to bring more democracy to the country. Yan Yan Chan also joined the group.

Generation Wave used different ways to share their messages. They used graffiti and handed out flyers. They even made bumper stickers that said "Change New Government" to put on cars. The group also shared movies that the government had banned, like Rambo, because these films showed the military in a bad light.

In March 2008, some members of Generation Wave were taken in by authorities because of their activities. Yan Yan Chan was also held for a while in April 2008. Some people thought it was because of his song lyrics that talked about freedom of speech. After almost a year, he was released in January 2009.

After a new situation in Myanmar in 2021, Yan Yan Chan became very active in protests against it. He spoke out in person at rallies and on social media. He joined the "We Want Justice" movement, which uses the three-finger salute as a sign of protest. Many famous people joined this movement.

In April 2021, he was wanted by authorities for speaking out against the situation. He was said to be encouraging people to join the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and to stand up for peace and stability in the country.

Family Life

In March 2010, Yan Yan Chan and his longtime girlfriend, Chilli, announced they would get married. They had their wedding ceremony on April 4 at the Traders Hotel in Yangon. Later that same year, Chilli gave birth to their first son.
