Yangel Herrera's Club Journey
Yangel Herrera began his football journey at Monagas SC. Later, in 2016, he moved to Atlético Venezuela.
Playing for Manchester City
In January 2017, it was confirmed that Herrera had signed with Manchester City. However, he was immediately sent to another team to gain experience.
Loan to New York City FC
After signing with Manchester City, Yangel Herrera was loaned to New York City for two years. He played his first game for them on March 12, 2017. He came in as a substitute in a big 4–0 win against D.C. United.
Loan to SD Huesca
After his time in New York City ended, Herrera was loaned to Huesca. This Spanish club plays in La Liga. He joined them for the last six months of the 2018–19 season.
Loan to Granada CF
On July 26, 2019, Herrera was loaned to Granada for the 2019–20 season. His loan was then extended for another year, covering the 2020–21 season.
Loan to RCD Espanyol
On August 31, 2021, Herrera moved to another La Liga team, Espanyol. He joined them on a one-year loan deal.
Joining Girona FC
On August 2, 2022, Herrera joined Girona, a team that had just been promoted. He played his first game for Girona on the very first matchday of the 2022–23 season. This game was a close 1–0 loss to Valencia. On January 7, 2023, he scored his first goal for Girona. It was an important goal that helped his team get a 2–2 tie against his former club, Espanyol.
On July 14, 2023, Yangel Herrera officially signed a permanent four-year contract with Girona. He has continued to be a key player for the club.
Yangel Herrera's International Career
Yangel Herrera made his first appearance for the Venezuela national team on October 10, 2016. He came into the game as a substitute during a 2–0 loss to Brazil.
Herrera was chosen as the captain for the Venezuela U20 team in the 2017 U-20 World Cup. He scored a crucial goal in the Round of 16 match against Japan. His goal came in the 108th minute and was the only goal of the game, securing a win for Venezuela.
