Yankeetown is a small, unincorporated community located in Crawford County, Wisconsin, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own separate local government like a city or village. Instead, it's part of a larger area called the Town of Clayton. You can find Yankeetown about two miles southwest of Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, right along Wisconsin Highway 131.

Yankeetown has a history that goes back many years.

Early Beginnings

One of the oldest parts of Yankeetown is its cemetery. This cemetery was started around 1861. It is the very first cemetery in the entire Town of Clayton.

In 1870, there was a schoolhouse in Yankeetown. This building was used for more than just learning. A new church group, called the Disciples of Christ, also used the schoolhouse for their services.

Important People

A notable person who lived in Yankeetown was William Henry Evans. He was a farmer and a lawyer. He also served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. The State Assembly is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Wisconsin.

Post Office History

Yankeetown once had its own post office. However, this post office was no longer listed in the Wisconsin Blue Book after 1883. The Wisconsin Blue Book is an official publication that lists important information about the state.
