Yasmine Akram is a talented Irish-Pakistani actress, writer, and comedian. She was born on March 11, 1981. You might know her best for playing Janine Hawkins in the popular TV show Sherlock. She has also written funny sketches for big TV channels like BBC and Channel 4.

Yasmine Akram's Early Life
Yasmine Akram was born in Sharjah, a city in the United Arab Emirates. When she was about one and a half years old, her family moved to Drogheda, Ireland. Her father is from Pakistan, and her mother, Mona, is from Drogheda. Yasmine also has a sister named Masooma.
From the age of 14, Yasmine worked with a theatre group called Calipo Theatre and the Picture Company. She later went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art to study acting. This is a very famous drama school.
Yasmine Akram's Career Highlights
After finishing drama school, Yasmine started writing comedy sketches for BBC and Channel 4. She also hosted shows for BBC Radio. Her first play was called 10 Dates with Mad Mary. It was a story about a young woman trying to get her life back on track after leaving prison. Yasmine performed this play in Ireland in 2010. Later, in 2016, it was made into a movie called A Date for Mad Mary.
Yasmine is also part of a comedy duo called Ford and Akram. She performs with English comedian Louise Ford. Their live show in 2011 was directed by a famous comedian, Alistair McGowan, for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 2013, Yasmine helped write and present a BBC Radio 4 show called Irish Micks and Legends with Aisling Bea. They also worked together on a Channel 4 comedy show called LOL.
Playing Janine in Sherlock
In 2014, Yasmine played the character Janine Hawkins in two episodes of the third series of Sherlock. She acted alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, who played Sherlock Holmes. She played the role again in a special episode in 2016 called "The Abominable Bride". In that special, her character's name was Janine Donlevy.
