Yavuz Turgul is a famous Turkish film director and screenwriter. He is well-known for his classic movies, especially those starring the actor Şener Şen.
Early life and education
Yavuz Turgul was born in Istanbul, Turkey. He studied journalism at Istanbul University. Before making films, he worked as a journalist for six years. He wrote for a magazine called Ses.
Film career
Turgul started his film career in the late 1970s. He wrote scripts for popular comedy movies. These films were made by producer Ertem Eğilmez and actor Kartal Tibet. Some early hits include Tosun Paşa (1976), Sultan (1978), and Hababam Sınıfı: Güle Güle (1981).
In the 1980s, he became even more successful. He won the Golden Orange award for Best Screenplay for Çiçek Abbas (1982). This film was directed by Sinan Çetin. Turgul then directed his first movie, Fahriye Abla (1984). He won the Golden Orange for Best Screenplay again for Züğürt Ağa (1985). This movie was directed by Nesli Çölgeçen.
His film Muhsin Bey (1987) was a huge success. He won Golden Oranges for Best Film and Best Screenplay for it. It also won awards at film festivals in Istanbul and San Sebastián. Many people consider Muhsin Bey his most important film.
In the 1990s, he continued making great movies. These included Aşk Filmlerinin Unutulmaz Yönetmeni (1990) and Gölge Oyunu (1992). For Gölge Oyunu, he won Golden Oranges for 2nd Best Film and Best Screenplay.
His biggest box office success was the popular film Eşkiya (1996). This movie helped bring Turkish audiences back to cinemas. It made him a leader in creating popular films during that time. He also won the Golden Dolphin award at the Festróia - Tróia International Film Festival for Eşkiya.
After a long break, he returned with Gönül Yarası (2005). This film won the Queens Spirit Award. He also wrote Kabadayı (2007), which was directed by Ömer Vargı. In the same year, he received a Golden Orange Lifetime Achievement Award for his work. His most recent film, Av Mevsimi, was released on December 3, 2010.
