Yebes Observatory
Yebes is home to the Yebes Observatory. This important place has a special tool called the RT40m radio telescope. A radio telescope helps scientists study space by picking up radio waves from distant objects. It's like a giant ear listening to the universe!
Ciudad Valdeluz: A New Town
A new town called Ciudad Valdeluz is being built near Yebes. It is about 10 kilometers away from the original village. The idea for this new town was to use the new high-speed train line between Madrid and Barcelona. This train line makes it easy to travel quickly between big cities.
Building the New Town
The plan to build Ciudad Valdeluz was approved in September 2002. Construction started in 2004. The first people moved into their new homes in 2006. The company building the town, Construcciones Reyal S.A., invested a lot of money into the project.
Challenges for Ciudad Valdeluz
However, the project faced problems because of the Spanish property bubble. This was a time when housing prices went up very fast, and then suddenly dropped. This made it hard for the new town to grow as planned. Despite these challenges, Ciudad Valdeluz continues to be a part of the Yebes municipality.
