Yefim Bronfman was born in a city called Tashkent. At that time, Tashkent was part of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. When he was 15 years old, he moved to Israel.

Yefim grew up in a family that loved music. His father, Naum Bronfman, was a concertmaster for the city's opera orchestra. A concertmaster is the lead violinist in an orchestra. His mother, Pauline Bronfman, was also a pianist. Yefim's older sister, Elizabeth, became a violinist with the famous Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
