Yellow Pine is a small place in Washington County, Alabama, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

Yellow Pine is special because it's the most western settlement in the entire state of Alabama. It sits at an elevation of 239 feet above sea level.

Yellow Pine's Past

The Old Post Office

For many years, Yellow Pine had its own post office. It opened in 1888, which was a very long time ago! People in the community could send and receive their mail right there. The post office served the area for almost a century before it closed in 1983.

The Lumber Business

Yellow Pine was once a busy place because of the lumber industry. A company called the E. W. Gates Lumber Company had a large sawmill here. A sawmill is a factory where logs are cut into planks and boards.

To help move all the cut lumber, the company even built its own railroad! This railroad was named the Washington & Choctaw Railroad. It was used to transport the wood from the sawmill to other places. This shows how important the lumber business was to Yellow Pine's early history.
