Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Yellowbud (sometimes called Yellow Bud) is a small place in Ross County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it does not have its own local government like a city or a town.

Yellowbud's Early Days: A Look at Its History

Yellowbud started as an important place for shipping goods. It was located right on the Ohio and Erie Canal. This canal was like a big water highway that boats used to carry products across the state.

The area where Yellowbud is located was officially planned out in 1845. This process, called "platting," means its streets and building lots were mapped out.

Later, when railroads were built, they became a faster way to move goods. Because of this, many businesses moved away from Yellowbud, and fewer people lived there over time.

Yellowbud had its own post office. It first opened in 1846 and was called "Yellow Bud." In 1895, its name was changed to "Yellowbud." The post office closed in 1903. The community gets its name from a nearby stream called Yellowbud Creek.
