Discover Yellowstone Lake State Park
Yellowstone Lake State Park is located in Lafayette County, near the town of Fayette. The lake itself was made by building a dam across the Yellowstone River. A dam is a big wall built to hold back water and create a lake. The Yellowstone River flows into the lake from the northwest side. On the southeast side, there's a large dike, which is like a long wall that helps hold the water in.

Water Sports and Fishing
The lake is perfect for water activities. You can go for a swim at the sandy beach area. If you have a boat, there's a boat launch to get it into the water. You can also rent boats right at the park. Fishing is very popular here! You might catch fish like bluegill, largemouth bass, walleye, and channel catfish. Sometimes, people even catch northern pike and muskellunge.
Trails for Hiking and Horses
The park has many trails for hiking. These trails let you explore the beautiful nature around the lake. In the winter, some of these trails are groomed for cross-country skiing, which is a fun way to glide through the snow. The larger Yellowstone Lake State Wildlife Area, which is next to the park, has even more trails. These are perfect for horseback riding.
