The Yeon Building is an old office building in downtown Portland, Oregon. It was finished in 1911 and has 15 floors. The building is about 59 meters (194 feet) tall.
It is named after John B. Yeon, a very successful businessman. He made his money in the timber (wood) industry. John B. Yeon helped pay for the building to be built.
Building History
The Yeon Building was completed in 1911. When it was first built, it was the tallest building in all of Oregon. It held this record for almost two years.
Design and Look
The building is mostly covered in special shiny tiles. These tiles are called glazed terra-cotta. The very top floors have a row of columns. This design is called a colonnade.
Long ago, the building had lights built into its edges. These lights would make the building glow at night. Later, these lights were taken away.
Special Recognition
In 1994, the Yeon Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is an important historical place in the United States. It is also a Portland Historic Landmark.
The building has changed owners a few times over the years. Today, it is still used for offices.
